If you’re a young aspiring musician and are in need of some training and direction this is the workshop for you. These workshops are for you, they will provide you with a hands on musical learning experience, unique group dynamic activities and you will also gain valuable industry insight from our professional seasoned tutors. JAZZ ENSEMBLE WORKSHOP

Dates: 29th July – 2nd August 2019

Time: 10AM – 1PM

Ages: 11- 16 YEARS OLD

Levels: Minimum of Grade 3 standard

Price: £215 per student

Expect the week to focus on performance, improvisation, learning to read music as a part of a repertoire and obviously and most importantly having fun.

At the end of the 5th day, students will get to perform in a piece as a band! How exciting.

Any Brass/Wind instruments (trumpet/trombone/sax/clarinet/flute etc) – 3 in total.

Ensemble playing is a crucial area of development for any young musician and we encourage this at every level.

TEACHER BIO: Chris Maddock

Chris studied classical saxophone at Trinity College of Music (Junior Dpt) from the age of 11, also studying Jazz Saxophone with great tenor Saxophonist Leigh Etherington. They have gained a scholarship place on the BMus (Hons) Jazz degree course at Birmingham Conservatoire at the age of 18, where he studied Saxophone with such luminaries as Mike Williams, Julian Siegal, Jean Toussaint and Iain Dixon. Chris achieved both grade 8 Classical Saxophones and Piano by the age of 14, and was awarded an exhibition award for achievement in Grade 8 Saxophones. He also holds an ATCL diploma in Saxophones and as of 2007, was awarded the Hambourg Award for improvisation multiple times. In 2010 Chris was awarded the Mike Gibbs/BBC big band prize for Jazz Orchestra composition/arranging. He has recently returned from a 2015 summer tour of Brazil with Louis Hoover and the Hollywood orchestra.

ROCK & POP ENSEMBLE WORKSHOP

Dates: 29th July – 2nd August 2019

Time: 2.30PM – 5.30PM

Ages: 11- 16 YEARS OLD

Levels: Minimum of Grade 3 standard

Expect the week to focus on performing, improvisation, learning popular songs, stage presence and having fun.

At the end of the 5th day, students will perform in a small band setting.

Expect the 5 day workshop to focus on the following:

“From the practice room to the stage”

  • choosing the repertoire: how to figure out the best setlist for the band
  • best practice schedule: time-management and best practice routines
  • rehearsal time: how to get the best from your time in the practice room with your band
  • preparing for the show: mental and physical preparation to hit the stage
  • last minute tips: final warmup
  • the big show: let’s rock!

TEACHER BIO: Emiliano

Emiliano Bonanomi is a professional guitar teacher and player. He covers many different styles from Rock to Pop, Blues, Funk, Metal and has more than fifteen years of experience as a gigging guitarist and teacher.

He holds a Masters degree (MMus) in Popular Music Performance – Guitar from UEL – ICMP (The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance of London) and he graduated from “RGA – Rock Guitar Academy” by Donato Begotti in Milan (Italy) previously. He also attended masterclasses with world renewed guitarists like Robben Ford and Italian estimated professionals like Bruno Santori, Luca Colombo and Fabrizio Frigeni. With the latest, he finally got certificates for lead and rhythm rock guitar at the Conservatoire “G. Donizetti” of Bergamo. He works as a Guitar Tutor, teaching students of all levels and skills from very beginners to advanced players (at any ages, both as individuals and groups). He is a Yamaha Music System certified educator and can teach lead and rhythm techniques in rock, pop, blues, funk, metal. Lectures about Rockschool grades, modern theory and harmony, digital music production, guitar setup and maintenance are other topics covered in his lessons.

Finally, he is also an endorser/demonstrator for the Italian amplifiers company Gurus Amps and collaborates with singer-songwriters (Freya Alley, Melinda Ortner, Paula Arismendi, Charlotte Kaye,…) and several Musicians agencies in London.

HOW DO I BOOK?

Click on the instrument you want to play at the workshop and just pay via online booking system which accepts all major debit and credit cards including AMEX.

We are not able to accept cash payments.

Please note spaces are limited to one student per instrument with exceptions to singers and brass instruments, where there are up to 3 spaces available.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME?

If you’re playing the piano, drums or singing, just bring yourself as we already have a drumkit, piano and mics in house. However if you are playing guitar, bass, brass please bring your instrument with you, NLMA will provide the bass and guitar amps.

DO I NEED TO BE ABLE TO READ MUSIC OR UNDERSTAND MUSIC THEORY?

Yes you will need to be able to read and understand music theory at a grade 3 level.

WHERE IS THE WORKSHOP TAKING PLACE?

The two workshops will take place at North London Music Academy, 15 Pratt Mews, NW1 0AD. Nearest stations are Camden Town and Mornington Crescent on the Northern Line.

WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY

Refunds are only considered in exceptional circumstances where the person booking has contacted us within 48 hours of making the booking. Any such refunds are made at our discretion and are subject to an administration fee of £30 per booking, deducted prior to any refund being made. 1b. Cancellations: We advise that students arrange their own personal cancellation insurance as we cannot refund fees paid in the event of cancellation on the part of the student. It is possible to nominate another person to attend in the student’s place, providing such a person is of the appropriate musical standard required, is of the appropriate age for the workshop, and that we receive all relevant details for the replacement student well in advance of the workshop start date. In this event please also check with us that there is a place available for the instrument that the replacement student plays. In the unlikely event that we cancel a workshop, payment will be refunded in full to the person who booked, within 28 days of any announcement being made.
