Ben is a multi-instrumentalist musician, composer and passionate teacher, able to draw upon his 15-year experience to deliver specialist tuition to pupils of all ages and abilities. Ben specialises in Jazz, Classical and world musics such as Latin, Bossa Nova and Afrobeat.
Beginning his journey with music on the classical guitar (studying under world
renowned guitarists Mark Eden & Gary Ryan) and achieving distinction at Grade 8 at the age of 14, he went on to study Jazz at Leeds College of Music with some of the
best guitarists & musicians in the UK including Jamie Taylor, Jannis Pavlidis and Ulrich Elbract, graduating in the Summer of 2013.
As a working musician, Ben is immersed in the London music scene. He is currently the guitarist for the Mobo award-winning singer Ego Ella May and has performed and recorded at prestigious venues, festivals and studios including Ronnie Scott’s, Glastonbury and Abbey Road to name a few. Other projects include leading the Daft Punk Orchestra, performing with Judi Jackson on Jazz FM, BBC Radio, and running a three night a week residency at the prestigious Annabel’s Club.
Ben has enjoyed teaching a series of workshops in South Africa under the South African Global Voices project, focusing on working within township communities, building up to a series of concerts in Cape Town. Most recently, Ben has curated a series of Jazz and Pop workshops for Hampshire Music Service.
He also has a passion for writing music, freelancing as a composer, arranger and producer. Ben has worked on successful campaigns for The Woolmark Company, Nike and Prada. Ben enjoys encouraging his students to develop their skills on the piano, bass, drums and production to help prepare for life as a musician in the 21st century.
As a teacher Ben loves nothing more than to share the wonderful experience and pleasure of music with his pupils, leading workshops, teaching classes and groups in schools and tutoring privately in London.
