About Joanna Gutwoska


Joanna Gutowska has made her debut as a soloist performing Goltermann’s Cello Concerto in G-major at the age of 12 and since that time she has appeared in concerts and festivals around the world as a concerto soloist, recitalist and chamber musician.

As a soloist she has performed in many renowned concert halls in Europe and Asia as well as at important festivals including: Presteigne Festival, Highgate Intenational Chamber Music Festival, International Festival Mistrzowie Polskiej Wiolinistyki, Piano Festival at the Royal Aca Gutdemy of Music London, International Festival of Mikolaj Gorecki, International Festival Cracow Autumn, International Festival of Krzysztof Penderecki Emanacje, International Festival Stars Promote, International Festival Music in Old Cracow. In 2017 she made make her debut on the BBC Radio 3 Broadcast.

Her repertoire is very broad, encompassing works from the standard repertoire alongside lesser known pieces. In her recitals she often includes new works, many of them written especially for her and dedicated to her. The latest performances included “Poems” for cello solo by Manos Charalabopoulos comissioned for her by the PRS recently shortlisted for the Ivan Juritz Prize.

Since 2015 Joanna is a cellist in the Bukolika Piano Trio with whom she has enjoyed several important international successes, including: International the St. John’s Smith Square Young Artists Scheme, the Ex-Animo Mentorship Foundation, the A.S.S.E.T Chamber Music Scheme at the Royal Academy of Music, Finalist tittle in the Final of the St. Martin’s-in-the-Fields Chamber Music Competition and Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition.

In 2016 Joanna Gutowska received the Sapere Auso Foundation scholarship for her outstanding achievements. She studied with Christoph Richter at Academy of Music, London, from where she graduated in 2018. Joanna was supported by a scholarship from the Clumber Studio.

Currently she is completing her PhD degree at the Academy of music in Krakow where she is also an assistant cello teacher. Her research focuses on expression and new qualities of sound in Kaija Sariaaho’ music for cello.
