About Marta Capponi
Marta Capponi is one of our resident vocal coaches, offering singing lessons, piano lessons, voice lessons, and group classes including ‘Free Your Voice’ and ‘Circle Songs Vocal Training’.
Marta Capponi is a young and talented jazz vocalist and composer who lives and works in London.
She started singing when she was 12 years old, winning many prizes. At the age of 19, inspired by Ella Fitzgerald, she discovered jazz vocal improvisation and started her singing, piano and jazz harmony studies attending the school ” Saint Louis College of Music” in Rome and “Conservatorio Licino Refice” in Frosinone.
After taking part to many workshops and masterclasses with some great musicians like Norma Winston, Carl Anderson , Bobby McFerrin, Shawnn Monteiro, Bob Stoloff , Mark Murphy and Gretchen Parlato, she decided to spend a few months in New York where she studied with Jay Clayton, JD Walter, Roberta Gambarini, Lauren Sevian and Joey Blake learning with him the Circle Songs technique.
She got several scholarships as Best Vocalist winning also “Lucca Jazz Donna 2008” and “Vittoria Jazz 2009”. Marta has collaborated with many renowned musicians such as Bobby Dhuram, Jim Mullen, Bill Saxton, John Crawford, Fabrizio Bosso, Javier Girotto, Luca Boscagin, Saint Louis Big Band, TMJB and performed in Italy’s most prestigious Festival as Umbria Jazz, Ravello Jazz Festival, Time in Jazz , Nuoro Jazz, Vittoria Jazz, Lucca Jazz and more. She also discovered her love for Brazilian music, especially the MPB and Cuban music, developing her own style which is crossed of jazz, improvisation and south American music, grounded in the African roots of rhythm.
