About Chris Maddock

Drawing on widespread professional experience as a performer and composer, Chris is able to offer specialist jazz and improvisation tuition on Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute and Piano.
He also teaches advanced Music Theory and Classical Saxophone/Piano.
He studied classical saxophone at Trinity College of Music (Junior Dpt) from the age of 11, also studying Jazz Saxophone with great tenor Saxophonist Leigh Etherington.
Chris gained a scholarship place on the BMus (Hons) Jazz degree course at Birmingham Conservatoire at the age of 18, where he studied Saxophone with such luminaries as Mike Williams, Julian Siegal, Jean Toussaint and Iain Dixon.
Chris achieved both grade 8 Classical Saxophones and Piano by the age of 14, and was awarded an exhibition award for achievement in Grade 8 Saxophones.
He also holds an ATCL diploma in Saxophones and as of 2007, was awarded the Hambourg Award for improvisation multiple times. In 2010 Chris was awarded the Mike Gibbs/BBC big band prize for Jazz Orchestra composition/arranging.
In early 2012 Chris was a recipient of the Yamaha Scholarship for outstanding Jazz musicians, and was featured in the November 2012 Issue of Jazzwise magazine. More recently in 2015 he was a finalist in the Worshipful Company of Musicians Young Jazz Musician of the Year.
Chris has recorded with a variety of artists, and appears on recent contemporary jazz albums “Meantime” – Clark Tracey quintet, “State of Play” – Toby Boalch Sextet and “Uncouth” by the Jonathan Silk Big Band.
Chris has performed at many prestigious events, venues and festivals including Swanage Jazz Festival, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Trondheim Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, The Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall (Proms Plus: Late), The Hideaway, 606 Club and Ronnie Scott’s amongst others.
He also performs/records on a regular basis as a session Saxophonist, and as a freelance musician for corporate and private events both in the UK and internationally.
He has recently returned from a 2015 summer tour of Brazil with Louis Hoover and the Hollywood orchestra.
