About Chris Maddock

Private 1-2-1 Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute & Piano Lessons

Chris is a saxophonist, arranger and composer based in London, England. He performs regularly at many of the leading Jazz venues in the UK and internationally with his own projects and as a sideman. An award-winning alumnus of Birmingham Conservatoire’s prestigious jazz course, he is an in-demand player in many different contexts, particularly Jazz, commercial and studio settings.

As a teacher, Chris offers a flexible, personal approach which takes into consideration the goals and aspirations of each student. Classically trained on woodwinds and piano, but now operating primarily in more Jazz and popular styles, he focuses on helping build students’ technical ability and general musicianship in an organic and enjoyable way. He is a specialist in jazz harmony and improvisation, and is happy to teach these skills from beginner to professional levels. Chris has taken pupils through the ABRSM grade system on woodwinds, piano and music theory with great success.

Chris was the winner of the Mike Gibbs/BBC big band jazz orchestra arranging prize in 2011, followed by being awarded the Yamaha scholarship for outstanding Jazz Musicians in 2012. He was also a finalist in the Worshipful Company of Musicians Young Jazz Musician of the Year competition in 2015.

Chris’s current band is the Chris Maddock Quartet, based around the classic Hammond organ trio lineup plus sax, playing original compositions and arrangements by Chris. The band has recently released its debut EP ‘The Hunt’ on the Ubuntu Music record label.

Other groups Chris has performed/recorded with include the Clark Tracey Quintet + Hexad, Young Pilgrims, Syd Lawrence Orchestra, Tom Dunnett Sextet, Omar Kamal, Emma Smith, James Hudson, Hailey Tuck, Jonathan Silk Big band, Hackney Colliery Band, Toby Boalch Sextet, Three Step Manoeuvre and many others.
