About Luke Pinkstone
Luke Pinkstone is a versatile and accomplished musician with a specialism in saxophone, flute and clarinet.
Luke has a BA Jazz from Middlesex University where he was taught by some of the UK’s top jazz musicians including Rob Townsend, Nikki Iles, Stuart Hall and Chris Batchelor. He has also had private master-classes from Zose Zalba (flute) and Zavier Zalba (saxophone).
Since graduating in 2011, Luke has enjoyed a varied and busy career playing regular gigs, recording sessions and theatre shows around the UK and Europe.
Luke has performed and toured with bands spanning a wide range of genres. This includes Billy Joel Songbook with Elio Pace, Hackney Colliery Band, Molotov Jukebox, London Dance Orchestra, Kai’s Cats and Urban Big Band. He an adept reader and improviser and is equally at home playing growling rock ‘n’ roll solos, beautiful melodies, blending with a soulful horn section or leading a small jazz combo.
Notable performances include Ronnie Scott’s, Barbican, BBC Radio 2, Vortex Jazz Club, Alexandra Palace, Electric Ballroom Brixton, Union Chapel, The Stables in Wavendon, Sage Gateshead, Selman Hotel in Marrakesh and various festivals around UK and Europe.
As an educator, Luke is experienced in both one-to-one and ensemble environments. He is currently musical director for Hillingdon Jazz Orchestra and Hillingdon Youth Big Band, course director for an annual summer music course in Cambridge (since 2012) and was invited to be guest saxophone tutor for National Children’s Wind Orchestra in 2013.
