About Thomas Durrant
Tom is a singer, songwriter and composer with a degree in Music from the University of Manchester and a masters degree from Goldsmiths, University of London. The main focus of Tom’s studies were classical voice and he further developed his musicianship skills as a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. Since finishing his studies Tom has performed with many professional choirs and as a backing vocalist for the likes of Basement Jaxx, Alex Vargas and Public Service Broadcasting as well as writing and performing his own material and receiving commissions for film and theatre music.
In addition to working with classical repertoire Tom is an award winning musical theatre performer and pop songwriter. As such, his teaching covers all styles of singing at all stages of development. Tom is also a qualified yoga instructor and believes in the importance of breath work, body work and general wellbeing when it comes to developing the voice and our selves as artists.
Tom has been teaching professionally for 9 years. Tom teaches Voice, Piano, Music Theory and Clarinet to all levels with a particular focus on helping people achieve the all important Grade 5 Theory required for the higher ABRSM grades. He is, however equally happy helping students prepare for exams and scholarships as he is helping people to sing purely for pleasure.
